Nokia 7710 Issues, Tips and Reference Links

My friend recently bought Nokia 7710 mobile phone. I must admit it’s quite trendy and sexy. But, no less than a couple of days, that he started to have problems with the set. Basically it gave out more often weird kinda memory errors. Although at first the problems seemed to be hardware errors, but a little close observation pointed out problems with the software. Its uses Symbian! Did I say Symbian? So what is Symbian? Let see…

Simply Symbian is an OS (operating System). So why don’t we use it instead of Windows XP or Linux? Symbian is developed by Symbian Ltd. and mostly used with smartphone devices.
A good article on Symbian technology, its evolution and its advantages/ disadvantages over its competitors is provided by Wikipedia at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Symbian

But the Symbian OS used in Nokia 7710 seem to carry lots and lots of bugs and the lists seem to be growing according to most of the users.
I did a Google on "Symbian and Nokia 7710 Issues" and it yielded lots of web pages pertaining to information on Symbian and Nokia 7710. Out of this, one web site has provided me a lot of answers to my questions. I’ve summarized some of the popular issues. For detailed information you can visit the following website, its good: http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/archive/t-32772.html
Many of these problems are not consistent and can differ with different software versions/ updates.

  1. Powering up the set without SIM card may result in "Device Startup fail" in some version of the OS.

  2. The set has a reputation for hanging up: whether be it “switching from an application to the main menu”, “getting hung in key-lock mode” or might be while switching profiles. This stuffs may get better with newer software updates.

  3. "out of memory" – It also prompts this message quite often.

All you can do right now is to keep the set updated with latest releases of the Symbian.
